Performance Concept Development

Performance Concept Development is my process for turning a spark of an idea into a fully articulated performance blueprint, grounded in movement and designed to attract collaborators, funders, and audiences.

I start by listening closely-to your artistic goals, community, institutional context, and practical parameters. From there, I work with you to define the core question or story at the heart of the project, then build an architecture around it: staging concepts, movement motifs, structural beats, and potential casting configurations.

As part of this work, I draw on my Artistic Vision Consulting practice to clarify tone, scale, and audience experience. Together, we determine what the piece needs to feel like in the body and in the room, so every choice-from sound to costume to lighting-can respond to a shared artistic spine.

Once the frame is clear, I bring in Movement Concept Consulting, designing distinct physical ideas, gestures, and spatial patterns that belong uniquely to your project. These can serve as the basis for choreography, actor movement direction, or devised ensemble work, and they give your collaborators concrete material to build from.

For artists and institutions seeking a longer arc of guidance, I expand this into Creative Development Consulting, supporting you from early ideation through rehearsal planning, work-in-progress showings, and production timelines. You leave with a concept that is artistically rigorous, structurally sound, and ready to move into casting, fundraising, or production.

Performance Concept Development is ideal for:
- New works that begin with a theme, commission, or social question rather than a finished script.
- Festivals, universities, and presenters shaping signature programs.
- Artists evolving from solo practice into ensemble or cross-disciplinary projects.

The outcome is a clear, movement-driven concept that honors your voice and gives your entire team a confident path forward.
