Body Percussion & Rhythm Techniques

Body Percussion & Rhythm Techniques is my hands-on training intensive for artists and students who want to feel rhythm not just in the music, but in their bones, breath, and ensemble relationships.
Drawing on years of work with body percussion, Double Dutch, and percussive theatre, I guide participants through a progression from simple patterns to complex, polyrhythmic structures. We use claps, steps, snaps, vocalization, and weight shifts to build layered soundscapes that can stand alone as performance, or weave into theatre, dance, and music projects.
Improvisation is central to this work. Through an Improvisation Workshop framework, I invite participants to respond to prompts-text, imagery, or groove-so they learn to generate rhythm in the moment, listen actively, and recover gracefully when patterns shift. This cultivates agility, focus, and a playful approach to risk.
To deepen performance quality, I integrate tools from my Performance Dynamics Masterclass. We explore dynamics (soft vs. explosive), musical phrasing, eye contact, and use of space, so the work becomes more than "cool sounds" and evolves into expressive, story-bearing performance. Participants practice transitioning between solo, duet, and group configurations, understanding how rhythm can signal power, community, or conflict.
This training supports:
- Dancers seeking stronger musicality and internal timing.
- Actors and movers in devised or physical theatre.
- Music, theatre, and dance departments building interdisciplinary projects.
- Youth programs looking for accessible, instrument-free entry points into complex rhythmic work.
By the end of Body Percussion & Rhythm Techniques, participants hold a shared rhythmic vocabulary, sharper listening skills, and the confidence to use their bodies as both instrument and storyteller-whether they are on a concert stage, in a black box, or in the classroom.
