Storytelling Through Movement

Storytelling Through Movement is my immersive workshop series for artists, ensembles, and educators who want bodies to carry as much meaning as text, song, or design.
Rooted in my practice as a Bessie Award-winning choreographer and movement director, these sessions guide participants to translate narrative beats, emotional shifts, and character relationships into clear, physical choices. Rather than teaching preset combinations alone, I focus on how intention, weight, rhythm, and space can reveal story without a single spoken word.
Many institutions begin with a Movement Fundamentals Workshop, where I introduce essential principles-breath, grounding, focus, and partnering-through accessible exercises that meet participants at their current level. This foundation builds shared language and confidence across mixed groups of actors, dancers, and non-dancers.
From there, I deepen the work in a Storytelling Through Movement Workshop. Here, participants apply those fundamentals to scenes, themes, or source texts from your repertoire. We experiment with imagery, gesture, and group composition, exploring how shifting one body, tempo, or pathway can transform meaning for an audience.
For artists ready to create original material, I offer a Choreography Masterclass within this series. In that format, I share composition tools I use professionally-structuring phrases, layering motifs, and crafting arcs-so participants can begin designing their own story-driven movement with clarity and confidence.
These workshops can support:
- Theatre, dance, and musical theatre programs developing physically expressive performers.
- Creative teams in early rehearsal, testing ideas before locking staging or choreography.
- Educators seeking practical frameworks to teach narrative through the body.
By the end, participants walk away with repeatable tools, not just a one-day experience: concrete methods they can apply to future productions, classrooms, or personal practice whenever a story needs to find its movement.
