Movement for Screen

Movement for Screen is my specialized masterclass for performers and creators who want their physical work to read with precision, nuance, and ease through the camera lens.
Stage-ready choices often need radical adjustment for film and television. In this session, I break down how framing, editing, and shot size change what the body can and should do, drawing from my experience choreographing and directing movement for major broadcast and streaming platforms.
I begin with a focus on technical clarity, incorporating principles from my Dance Technique Workshop-alignment, efficiency, and injury-aware mechanics-so performers can repeat physical phrases reliably over multiple takes. We then move into the Advanced Movement Techniques Masterclass level of training: detailed work on articulation, breath, micro-gesture, and timing that amplifies presence without crowding the frame.
Participants learn how to:
- Adjust scale for wide, medium, and close-up shots.
- Maintain continuity of movement across angles and retakes.
- Use rhythm, stillness, and eye-line to anchor choreography on camera.
- Collaborate effectively with directors, DPs, and editors.
A key component is the Movement for Screen Masterclass segment, where we stage short sequences specifically for filming. Performers immediately see playback, receive targeted notes, and experiment in real time with alternative options, building a toolkit they can bring directly to sets, auditions, and self-tapes.
This offering is valuable for:
- Dancers transitioning into film and television work.
- Actors and musical theatre performers preparing for movement-heavy roles.
- Schools and training programs aligning curricula with current screen-industry demands.
By the end of Movement for Screen, participants understand not only how to move well, but how to move in a way that serves story, camera, and edit-so every frame carries intentional, readable physical storytelling.
